About the Author
Alaya Johnson graduated from Columbia University in 2004 with a BA in East Asian Languages and Cultures. She has published The Goblin King, for younger readers, and is working on a fantasy trilogy for older teens called The Spirit Binders. The first book, Racing the Dark, was published in 2007 and the second, The Burning City, was released in April 2010. She also has an unrelated adult 1920s vampire suffragette novel, Moonshine, out in May 2010.
About the Illustrator
Yuko Ota was born and raised in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. She went to school at the Rochester Institute of Technology and graduated in 2008 with a BS in Sequential Art. She has done comics work for Dark Horse and Oni Press, as well as Graphic Universe. Yuko currently lives in Brooklyn, and likes cats and drawing comics!

Page Turn Feature Page Turn:

Students can turn the page using the forward arrow, clicking and dragging, or clicking the bottom corner of the book depending on their comfort level or keyboard skills.

Single Word Repeat Feature Single Word Repeat:

A unique feature of the Lerner Interactive Book is single word playback. Readers can stop, click and re-listen to the pronunciation of any word on the page. If the book includes a glossary, readers can also click on the word for a full definition.

Dual Audio Speed Feature Dual Audio Speeds:

Because not all students read at the same pace, we've included dual audio speeds based on a words-per-minute pace recommended by reading and educational researchers for struggling and on-grade-level readers. Readers start at speed one, and can move to the faster speed as they gain confidence.

Player Controls Toolbar:

Each button on the player uses color, text and easy-to-recognize icons so even the earliest of readers feel comfortable using the controls. Each tool remains consistent through all our titles, so kids can focus on reading.
