Author Biography
About the Author
Brenna Yovanoff was raised in a barn, a tent, and a tepee, and was homeschooled until high school. She spent her formative years in Arkansas, in a town heavily populated by snakes, where sometimes they would drop turkeys out of the sky. When she was five, she moved to Colorado where it snows on a regular basis, but never snows turkeys. She holds an MFA in Fiction from Colorado State University and is the author of two young adult novels, The Space Between, and the New York Times Bestseller The Replacement. She currently lives in Denver with her husband.
Tessa has wanted to be a paleontologist or a wizard since she was seven. Alas, she turned out too impatient to hunt dinosaurs, but is still searching for someone to teach her magic. After traveling the world with her military family, Tessa settled in Kansas with her partner, her cats, and her mutant dog.
Maggie Stiefvater is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the novels Shiver, Linger, Forever, and The Scorpio Races. She is also the author of Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception and Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie. She lives in Virginia with her husband and their two children. She is also a musician and artist: you can see her book trailers online at www.maggiestiefvater.com.

"The end result of the combination of stories and formal and informal commentary is that readers will feel a stronger, more intimate connection with these writers as people, as well as gain insight into the kinds of support and critique that are useful in story-making and story-sharing." --Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

Images of the Interactive Book in Action

Lerner Interactive Books Screenshot 1

Lerner Interactive Books introduce students to knowledge areas in core grade-level curriculum in an engaging format. With titles that span curriculum themes from pre-K - 5th grade, Lerner Interactive Books give readers a digital option for reading that allows them to read, hear, and interact in a way that will engage and motivate them to read more and more often. It's a fast path to deepening students' love of reading and learning.

Lerner Interactive Books Screenshot 2

From the opening page, audio and visual cues and easy-to-use tools help guide your students through the story. As the story begins, words are highlighted while they're read aloud. This type of word distinction better supports letter and word recognition skills, and keeps kids focused on the structure of how to read.

Page Turn Feature Page Turn:

Students can turn the page using the forward arrow, clicking and dragging, or clicking the bottom corner of the book depending on their comfort level or keyboard skills.

Single Word Repeat Feature Single Word Repeat:

A unique feature of the Lerner Interactive Book is single word playback. Readers can stop, click and re-listen to the pronunciation of any word on the page. If the book includes a glossary, readers can also click on the word for a full definition.

Dual Audio Speed Feature Dual Audio Speeds:

Because not all students read at the same pace, we've included dual audio speeds based on a words-per-minute pace recommended by reading and educational researchers for struggling and on-grade-level readers. Readers start at speed one, and can move to the faster speed as they gain confidence.

Player Controls Toolbar:

Each button on the player uses color, text and easy-to-recognize icons so even the earliest of readers feel comfortable using the controls. Each tool remains consistent through all our titles, so kids can focus on reading.

Interactive Whiteboard Tools Built-in Interactive Whiteboard Tools:

Teachers, parents and librarians can use the interactive whiteboard tools to highlight or circle specific portions of the book for one-on-one, small group, or whole class instruction.

Additional Materials Additional Materials:

We've included extra material and support to help extend the learning experience. Kids can play a game or activity that relates to the story they just read, or take a simple 5-question quiz to check for understanding.
