With the launch of our new website, we've added many new features and functionality. We hope that these added features will make your book browsing and shopping experience both time-saving and valuable. But we know you may have questions along your journey to find just the right book.
 
For that reason, we've created a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) and grouped them into common categories. To find an answer, click on a category below and the related questions will be displayed. Simply click on a question to display its answer. If you cannot find the answer you are looking for, please contact customer support.

  • Where are Lerner Publishing Group's offices?
    • Lerner Publishing Group is headquarted in Minneapolis, Minn. Our editorial, sales, and marketing offices are located at 241 First Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55401. Our business office and distribution center are located at 1251 Washington Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55401. We also have a small editorial team in our New York office located in the Empire State Building.

  • What is the best way to order Lerner Publishing Group titles?
    • The quickest way to place and process an order is via our website. But, if you prefer to place your order directly with a Customer Support Associate, you may call 1-800-328-4929 Monday through Friday, 8 am.-5 p.m. CST. We also accept orders via fax at 1-800-332-1132.

  • When I place my order, how long will it take to receive it?
    • Most orders will arrive within 7-10 business days. If you have requested library processing for your order, please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery.

    • If your package seems to be delayed, please go to My Account and select Online Order History to review your order and track your shipment. You may also contact Customer Support at 1-800-328-4929 for assistance. Please have your order number as a reference.

  • What is the cost for shipping and handling?
    • When you order online, your shipping and handling charges will be automatically calculated for you during the checkout process. If you need a shipping and handling estimate prior to placing an order, please contact Customer Support at 1-800-328-4929.

  • Can I use my own shipping account number?
    • If you have a Federal Express or UPS shipping account number that you would like to use for your shipment, please contact Customer Support for assistance at 1-800-328-4929.

  • Do you charge sales tax?
    • If required by your state's laws, sales tax will be added to your order. When you order online, sales tax will be automatically calculated for you during the checkout process. If you need an estimate prior to placing an order, please contact Customer Support at 1-800-328-4929.

    • If your organization is tax exempt, please enter your tax ID number when placing your order, or you may update your account information by going to the My Account section on this site and including your tax ID number with your billing address under My Information.

  • I would like to have library-processing on my books. How should I proceed?
    • Please use our Library Processing Wizard. This new online tool allows us to store your specifications with your account. You may create one or many specificiations, and your  specifications will be kept on file for future orders.

      If you are ordering online, your specifications will be automatically sent in with your order when you select library processing. If you are mailing, faxing, or phoning in your order, you should still use the Library Processing Wizard, but select the "Print" option at the end of the program. Then send in the printed specifications with your order.

  • How can I request a catalog?
    • Simply click on the Request a Catalog button at the bottom of any page in this website or visit the Communication Settings within the My Account section.

    • If you have not registered on our site, you can quickly do so very quickly by giving us just a bit of information about you, including an address where you'd like your catalog mailed. And, once you register on the site, you'll be eligible for great membership perks like additional discounts and promotions, free eBook downloads, ARC giveaways, and more.

  • How do I know if you have a sales representative in my area?
    • If you are a librarian, educator, or bookseller, we would be happy to connect you with the sales representative in your area. Our national sales representatives will be able to meet with you to discuss our latest offerings, show samples of our books, and tell you about our exclusive sales offers.   • Can I purchase books from your catalog or website if I live outside of the United States?
    • Anyone looking to purchase outside of the US needs to contact one of the distributors below. If none of the distributors listed below are in your area, please contact Customer Support at 1-800-328-4929 for further information.

  • Do you have distributors outside of the United States?
    • Select titles from our offerings may be ordered in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore, and the United Kingdom through the following distributors.   • How do I check whether translation, subsidiary, movie, electronic, or distribution rights are available?
  • May I photocopy, scan or republish portions of a book's text or images?
    • Please contact info@lernerbooks.com to submit your inquiry. Please be as specific as possible in your email regarding the details of your request so that we may respond quickly on whether your intended usage of our text or images falls within fair use guidelines or will require you to gain special permissions.

  • Do you offer Core Collections for school libraries?
    • Yes! We have identified an essential collection of books for elementary, middle school, and high school libraries. Each list covers a breadth of curricular topics that will support your students' research needs. Ideal for new school openings, these Core Collections make it easy to make an initial purchase. Plus, orders for entire Core Collections are eligible for a 35% discount with free shelf-ready processing and free shipping.

  • How do I know if a book is out of stock? Will a book that is out of stock automatically be backordered?
    • You are now able to check a book's current availability on the book's detail page as well as in your shopping cart. Books that are no longer in print will not appear on Lerner Publishing Group's website.

      If you pre-order a book before its release date, or if you order a book that is temporarily out of stock, the book will automatically be "backordered," or slated for later delivery, unless you specify otherwise. When the titles become available, they will be shipped and billed to you.

      Please note: Backordered titles are not eligible for affixed library processing. Customers will receive unaffixed processing material for those titles along with the main order shipment.

  • What should I do if I receive a damaged or unwanted book?
    • Your satisfaction is guaranteed! If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with your order from Lerner Publishing Group, please contact our Customer Support Team within 30 days, and we will gladly replace the book(s) or credit your account. We will accept returns on any ordered material found unsatisfactory. *Books must be returned within 60 days of purchase and be accompanied by a copy of the invoice.

      *PLEASE NOTE:We cannot accept returns on books with affixed library processing unless those books have not been properly processed according to your instructions.

  • What is a library binding?
    • A library binding features extra-strong glues and/or reinforced stitching that keeps the pages of the book firmly attached to the covers. These bindings stand up in libraries, where frequent checkouts and hard use by patrons would wear out a normal, or "trade," hardcover binding. Look for the Muscle Bound® logo on the back of the book's cover to determine whether your book is library bound.

      The bindings of our library-bound hardcover books are guaranteed for the life of the book. If you ever have problems with the bindings of a Muscle Bound® book, please contact our Customer Support Team at 800-328-4929 for a free replacement.

  • Do your products meet safety guidelines?
    • Lerner Publishing Group has an exemplary safety record and devotes considerable resources to manage our supply chain to produce safe and compliant products. Further, our books do not pose choking risk as they do not contain small parts, balloons, small balls or marbles, or any magnetic components. Lerner Publishing Group has been advised by its manufacturers that its books do not exceed the CPSC lead limit.

  • How are your reading levels determined?
    • Our publisher's reading levels are determined by our experienced authors, editors and consultants, who give careful consideration to factors such as word recognition, vocabulary choice, contextual support, sentence complexity, sentence length, paragraph length, overall text length, and other factors. We also take into account the book's layout, offering visual cues and organizational support in the way the pages are designed. We check our reading levels against computerized leveling systems, but we use human judgment to make the final determination.

      Many of our books are sent out for leveling from recognized reading assessment programs, including ATOS, Lexile, and Guided Reading Levels. These levels are added to the book descriptions on our website and in our catalogs as soon as we receive them from the programs.

      Please remember that reading levels are an estimation of when a child should be able to read the text independently. Yet each child has unique needs, and their different abilities and experiences may make some texts easier or more difficult for them.

  • How do I receive a copy of a book to review in my blog, newsletter, or professional book?

  • What ebook formats are available?
    • Lerner Publishing Group eBooks are primarily delivered in PDF format. We have a small selection of books for the Kindle which can be found via the Amazon.com store.

  • Are tests for your books available on Accelerated Reader® or Scholastic Reading Counts™ reading incentive programs?
    • Yes! Many of our books have tests available on these reading incentive programs. Look for ATOS and SRC on the book detail pages to determine whether a particular title is available on a program.

  • I'd like to contact one of your authors or illustrators. How do I get in touch with them?
    • Many of our authors and illustrators have individual pages on the website that may include a personal blog, Facebook page, or Twitter account through which you may contact them. You may also write to your favorite author, illustrator, or photographer in care of Lerner Publishing Group, and we will forward your correspondence on to them.   • How do I change my Role?
  • How do I change, add, or remove a new shipping or billing address?
    • To change your billing address, please contact customer support directly at 1-800-328-4929 or email us at custserv@lernerbooks.com.

      To change your shipping address, visit the My Information page within the My Account section after signing in. Once you are on the My Information page, select the Edit link next to the Shipping Address section header, whichever you would like to update. Selecting the Edit link will open up a form that will allow you to edit your address details.

      To add a new shipping address, simply click on the Add New Addresses link. A form will open that allows you to add a new shipping address.

      If you would like to delete a shipping address, simply click on the Delete link next to the address you would like to remove.

  • How do I change my email address?
    • To change your email address, visit the My Information page within the My Account section after signing in. Once you are on the My Information page, select the Edit link next to the About You section header. Selecting Edit will open up a form that will allow you to edit your details and change your email address.

  • How do I enter or change credit card information?
    • Currently we do not store credit card information on the website. When you proceed to checkout, you will first be asked to review your billing and shipping information. Next, you will be asked to enter your payment information. Enter your credit card information here. If your billing address does not match your credit card billing address, the purchase may be declined. Please contact customer support if you need to update your billing address.   • Where do I sign up for or cancel a newsletter subscription?
    • Opting in to our email newsletters is simple. Simply register for your free LernerBooks.com account and select the email newsletters you would like to receive.

      You can update your email newsletter preferences at any time by clicking on the available links within an email you've received. You may also do so by editing your preferences within the My Information page within your My Account section.

  • What if I forget my user name or password?
    • If you forget your username or password, enter your username in the "Username or Email" field in the "Sign In" area and click the "Login" button. The "Sign In" form will expand to include options to retrieve your forgotten password or contact Customer Support at 1-800-328-4929.

  • Finding and Learning About Products

  • How do I browse a specific category?
    • We created a Book Browse feature to make it easier for you to find books that would be of interest to you. There are a few different options to use the book browse feature. First, you can access the book browse tool right from the home page. Once the home page loads, simply select the categories that you would like to browse. Another option is to select the Book Browse tab in the navigation which will bring you directly to the book browse tool. You have the option to browse by grade, subject, reading level, specific interests, and whether or not an item is a best seller or on sale.

  • How do I find a book by ISBN?
    • There are a few options you can use to search for a book by its ISBN. One option is to enter the ISBN into the quick search field at the top of any page throughout the website and click the search button. Another option is to do a more advanced search by clicking on the Advanced Search link next to the quick search fields. This will take you to the Advanced Search page which will allow you to select more search criteria to filter your search. Lastly, there is an ISBN search field that lives in the upper right area of each page (except for the Home Page) of the website. This is another quick search option you can use if you know the ISBN of the book you are looking for.

  • Where can I find books by and information about specific authors or illustrators?
    • Each of our authors and illustrators has a page within our website that details more information about them. You can access author and/or illustrator pages by visiting the Authors & Illustrators page. This page can be accessed by clicking on the Authors & Illustrators tab in the main website navigation. Another option to find author and illustrator web pages is to use the advanced search tool.

  • What are eBooks?
    • The term ebook is short for electronic book and is also known as a digital book. We offer several of our titles in the ebook format. To find these, simply visit the advanced search page and choose the ebook format from the format field under the Pre-filter Results section.

  • How can I find other books in a series?
    • There are a couple of options to find a specific series on our website. One option is to use the advanced search page. Simply type the series name into the keyword field and hit search. The search results will contain a listing of the books within the series you entered.

      On book detail pages, if a book belongs to a series, the series will be listed as part of the books details at the top of the page. The series name will be a link that you can click on to visit the web page that is associated with that series.

  • How do I find books according to advanced properties?
    • A key feature of our website is our Advanced Search. The Advanced Search will come in handy when you are looking for more specific items. Visit the advanced search page by clicking on the Advanced Search link at the top of any page throughout the website. Once on the Advanced Search page, you have the ability to build custom search queries based on some primary properties, whether or not the item has received reviews and/or awards, Dewey classification, curriculum and standards, reading programs and levels, and more.

  • Is it possible to get a preview inside a book?
    • Yes, it is possible to get a preview of what a book looks like on the inside. If a book has this option, you will see a View Inside tab on the book detail page. Click on the View Inside tab and you'll be able to preview the book right on our website.

  • Can I get a sample of the typeface and size in a particular title?
    • Yes, one of the features of our website is the font lens we create for each of our titles. When you visit a web page for a book, you will see the font lens on the right side of the page. This will give you an idea of the font being used in the book as well as its size. Another option to view the font lens as well as other images of a book is to click on the magnifying glass icon just beneath the cover image at the top of a book detail page. This will allow you to view a larger version of the front cover, back cover, 2-page inside spread, font lens, as well as a 2-page internal spread with font lens. These are meant to give you a better idea of the actual layout of the book.

  • How do I find out which books are correlated to my state's standards?
    • You can view the standards for a book by clicking on the See Standards tab on the book detail page. This will allow you to search for specific standards by state, grade, subject, and the specific standard(s).

  • Creating and Managing Book Lists

  • What are book lists?
    • Book Lists offer a fast, simple way for registered users to build, save, share and manage lists of books. Just click on, or drag any book to the book ribbon to save books in your list from any place on the site. Create one list or many. Browse and collaborate with other librarians and educators, students, and peers to create the right book selections for your school, library, bookstore, or bookshelf.

  • How do I create a new book list?
    • To create a new book list, click on the Create New option within the drop down menu in the My Book List ribbon or visit the Manage Book Lists page by clicking on the Manage link within the book list ribbon that appears throughout the site. You can also navigate here by clicking on My Account at the top of the page, and then click Manage Book Lists. In order to save your booklist, you must be a registered user. If you create a booklist without logging in to the site as a registered user, you must proceed to checkout with this list, or the contents of the list will be lost once you leave our site.

  • How do I add items to a book list?
    • Once you've registered for an account and created a new book list, you can add items to it by clicking on the "+" icon that you will see located next to a book's cover image or by clicking on the "Add to Book List" button which you will see on the search results and book detail pages. You may also click on the cover image and drag it to the book list ribbon to manually add it to your book list.

  • How do I remove items from a book list?
    • If you are viewing a book list within the book list ribbon, place your mouse over the cover image for the book you'd like to remove. A red "x" icon will appear on the cover image. Simply click on the cover image and it will be removed.

      Another option is to visit your "My Book List" page which allows you to view the details of your book lists. Select the book list that you would like to remove an item from in the "Viewing" drop down menu. The book list will be displayed. Click on the "Remove" link next to the item you would like to delete from your book list.

  • Can I add a book to a previous list while browsing?
    • Yes! Make sure that the book list you'd like to add the new book to is selected within the book list ribbon drop down menu. Then, from the book browse, search results, or book detail page add the book by clicking on the "+" icon that you will see located next to a book's cover image or by clicking on the "Add to Book List" button which you will see on the search results and book detail pages. You may also click on the cover image and drag it to the book list ribbon to manually add it to your book list.

  • Where can I see all my book lists?
    • To view all of the book lists that you have created as a registered user, you will need to access the "All My Book Lists" page. Click on the "Manage" link in the book list ribbon. This will take you to the "My Book List" page for the current book list you have selected in the book list ribbon. Select the "Manage All Lists" link next to the "Viewing" book list drop down menu. This will take you to the "All My Book Lists" page.

      The "All My Book Lists" page allows you to manage each of the book lists you've created. On the "All My Book Lists" page you are able to create new, rename, remove, purchase, and share your book lists. You are also able to post a book list you've created to our "Public Book List" page so that you can share it with others who may benefit from the list you've created.

  • How can I look at a book list in more detail than what's at the top of my page?
    • To view a book list in more detail, click on the "Manage" link in the book list ribbon that appears on the page. This will bring you to the "My Book List" which allows you to view the book list you've created in more detail. On the "My Book List" page you are able to adjust quantities of books within your list, remove items from your book list, move items to another book list, check on the availability and price, and more.

  • How do I delete a book list?
    • You are able to delete or remove a book list you've created by visiting your "All My Book Lists" page. Click on the "Manage" link in the book list ribbon. This will take you to the "My Book List" page for the current book list you have selected in the book list ribbon. Select the "Manage All Lists" link next to the "Viewing" book list drop down menu. This will take you to the "All My Book Lists" page where you can remove a book list that you no longer need.

  • Sharing and Communication

  • How do I find book lists created by other members?
    • We've created a "Public Book List" page which allows you to view book lists that others have created. You are able to copy items from a publicly shared book list to your own book list, communicate with the author of the publicly shared book list, or print the list.

  • Is it possible to allow others to see and copy my book lists?
    • Yes! You can share a book list with others and we encourage you to do so. To share a book list with the public, visit the "All My Book Lists" page. Simply select the checkbox in the "Post to Public Book List Page" checkbox on the right side of the book list table.

  • How do I share a book list only with certain members?
    • If you prefer to share your book list with only a few selected people, you can do so by emailing them a book list directly. Visit the "All My Book Lists" page and select the email icon in the "Share via Email" column. An email form will appear. Fill out the form and click the "Send" button to share your book list with specific people. You are able to email your list to multiple people by separating email addresses with a coma.

  • Can I send my list to someone who isn't a Lernerbooks.com member?
    • Yes, you can share any of your book lists anyone else by sending it to them in an email. Visit the "All My Book Lists" page and select the email icon in the "Share via Email" column. An email form will appear. Fill out the form and click the "Send" button to share your book list with specific people. You are able to email your list to multiple people by separating email addresses with a coma.

  • Is there a calendar of events?
    • Yes! Visit the "About Lerner" section and click on the "Events Calendar" link in the "About Lerner" section sub-navigation. Events for the current month are displayed and you are able to view future events by selecting the month from the drop down menu or by navigating to it directly with the "Next Month" or "Previous Month" links.

  • How do I list an upcoming event?
    • You can request or submit an event by clicking on the "Request an Event" button on the "Events Calendar" page. This will take you to a web form that will allow you to submit your event.

  • How can I share a blog post or event with people outside Lernerbooks.com?
    • There is a blog module posted towards the bottom of most pages throughout our website. You can click on the headline to visit the blog post. You can also choose to share the blog post with others by clicking on the "ShareThis" link. "ShareThis" is a utility that allows you to share content via standard social networking and sharing tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Delicious, Digg, and many more. You can also subscribe to our blog's RSS feed by clicking on the RSS feed icon.

  • Placing and Tracking Orders

  • What are Accelerated Reader (AR) Quiz charges listed on the order page?
    • AR quizzes are available for many of our titles. Quizzes are $1.00 each. However, if you order 50 or more AR quizzes, they are free of charge. When you are reviewing your order, please be sure the check the AR Quiz option if you would like quizzes included with your order.

  • What are the Library Processing Charges listed on my order confirmation?
    • Charges for library processing are dependent on your particular specifications. To see exact charges, please review the specifications you've selected in the library processing wizard which details your charges. Orders over $350.00 receive free shelf-ready library processing.

  • Some items in my order are not available immediately. Will shipment be delayed on the entire order?
    • We will group your shipment by availability date. You can expect to receive all in stock items that are immediately available in approximately 7-10 business days. Items that are not available with your initial shipment will be sent as soon s they arrive in our inventory. You will only be charged as your items ship. Go to Order History under My Account to see the estimated ship dates for items that you have not yet received.

  • What forms of payment will you accept?
    • We accept VISA or MasterCard for orders placed on our site. We also accept American Express and Discover with phone, fax, or email orders. If you are interested in establishing a line of credit for your account, please contact Customer Support at 1-800-328-4929.

  • Where can I update my credit card information?
    • Currently we do not store credit card information on the website. When you proceed to checkout, you will first be asked to review your billing and shipping information. Next, you will be asked to enter your payment information. Enter your credit card information here. If your billing address does not match your credit card billing address, the purchase may be declined. Please contact customer support if you need to update your billing address. We can be reached at 800-328-4929 or Customer Support.

  • Can I open a line of credit with Lerner Books?
    • We would be happy to consider a line of credit for your account. Please contact Customer Support at 800-328-4929 or custserv@lernerbooks.com for more information. Once you have a line of credit established, you can use your LOC to order products from our website.

  • Where can I get information on past orders?
    • To find Order History, click Account in the site header above. Order History will then be listed on the left. From there you may review the details of previous orders and their shipment statuses.

  • What are the shipping options?
    • We select the best available shipping option provided by known and respected carriers, based on competitive rates, at the time of the order. Expect delivery via UPS, USPS or FedEx. Your tracking number will indicate which carrier has been selected.

  • Lerner eBooks

  • What formats are available for your Lerner eBooks?
    • Lerner eBooks accessed directly from Lerner Publishing Group are available through a web browser at http://ebooks.lernerbooks.com. However, we also distribute our ebooks through a number of e-distributors who might have one of our ebook titles available in a different format (e.g. Follett Digital Resources, NetLibrary, OverDrive, Ingram, Barnes & Noble, Baker & Taylor, Amazon, and Google).

  • What is the difference between a Lerner eBook and a Lerner Interactive Book?
    • A Lerner eBook is an exact digital representation of the printed book in a PDF format that cannot be printed, saved, copied, or edited.

      A Lerner Interactive Book features vibrant text highlighting, single word play-back, and the only interactive book with dual audio speeds that adjust pace to a reader's ability, Lerner Interactive Books provide the right level of auditory and visual support of grade-level content to help struggling readers quickly improve literacy skills and gain confidence.

  • Can your Lerner eBooks be downloaded to my desktop?
