    What was your favorite book when you were a child?
    Nancy Drew. I still read mysteries.

    What’s your favorite line from a book?
    It was the best of times; it was the worst of times. An accurate description of all periods of history!

    Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?
    Jim Murphy, Sally M. Walker, Nancy Castaldo, all NF writers.

    Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?
    I was a ferocious reader as a kid and told my mom when I was in 4th grade that I wanted to do this. I love sharing my historical and archaeological information with kids, the kind of books I would have enjoyed then myself.

    Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?
    Persistence is the key. Writing is a craft--get some training, experience, and keep at it.
