    Anna Levine is the author of several picture books and two young adult novels, all of which take place in Israel. She lives in Mevesseret Zion, just outside of Jerusalem.

    What was your favorite book when you were a child?
    Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans and To Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street by Dr. Seuss

    What’s your favorite line from a book?
    This is from “The Secret of Life, According to Aunt Gladys”, a short story by Bruce Coville. “I think you can be way too careful. You can be so careful that you go your whole life without ever seeing a rainbow because you’re so busy trying not to step in any puddles.”

    Who are your top three favorite authors or illustrators?
    Billie Collins (poet), Lois Lowry (YA), Maurice Sendak (Picture Books)

    Why did you want to become an author or illustrator?
    I write to make sense of the world in which I live.

    Do you have any advice for future authors or illustrators?
    Persistence! Attention to detail. And in the words of Isaac Bashevis Singer, “The whole world, all human life, is one long story.” And we are the ones who must find a way to tell and share these stories.
