    Group Marketing Director:
    The Group Marketing Director will drive the marketing strategy and lead the execution of marketing and publicity initiatives to build our brands and authors. This position will establish the vision and strategy for multi-platform advertising and promotional programs, working alongside our marketing and sales teams to ensure proper execution of marketing campaigns, product launches, and channel strategies. Primary focus will be on the school/library market, with additional focus on trade and classroom markets.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Develop and spearhead marketing and publicity strategies and programs. Create annual/seasonal marketing and publicity plans that maximize ROI and enhance brand image. Identify strategies and tactics that will create interest, drive sales, and enhance Lerner Publishing Group’s image within targeted markets. Direct and collaborate with market managers to realize strategies and tactics and to evolve them with changing market needs.
    • Manage, direct, and supervise the marketing, publicity, and design teams.
    • Oversee all aspects of ad planning, ad trafficking, promotional efforts, production schedules and mailings, and sales support programs – all of which will integrate and align with overall corporate initiatives.
    • Oversee development, production, and quality of all catalogs and marketing materials. Review strategy for catalogs, Website content, and other marketing pieces for optimal effectiveness; review catalogs and other marketing materials for content accuracy and best promotional presentation.
    • Create and drive innovative approaches to print, online, email, and social media marketing campaigns that align to ever-changing best practices and available methods.
    • Manage integration of all online and offline marketing and publicity to create a customer-centric, best-practices-driven, and cohesive brand image.
    • Develop and manage department budget, in collaboration with market managers. Allocate and balance the budgeamong marketing campaigns, advertising strategies, PR activities, and promotional tools to derive the best ROI from financial and human resource investments. Continually monitor and re-allocate financial resources as needed.
    • Serve as marketing liaison to content development teams and review products for optimal marketability in acquisition stage, early development, cover and series design development, and titling.
    • Lead website strategy and development in collaboration with other stakeholders. Provide direction and input on company websites to support strategic marketing, sales, and business objectives. Identify online promotion tactics that will increase online traffic, drive eCommerce transactions, and increase customer loyalty.
    • Track and report metrics on and analysis of marketing and publicity programs. Identify and test alternative marketing methods, establish measurable objectives, and deliver post event analyses to results against goals. Present findings to management team and make recommendations for future changes.
    • Promote company/key books/key authors or illustrators through speaking engagements at key conferences, journal/magazine/newspaper articles. Work with executives/authors/illustrators to develop topics for and successfully carry out content marketing such as articles and blog posts.
    • Oversee and approve all printed materials to promote books and imprints/company to the media and customers, including but not limited to postcards, flyers, bookmarks, posters, sell sheets, and catalogs. Approve content for electronic promotional strategies, including but not limited to email campaigns, electronic newsletters, the Lerner blog, and features for Lerner Web sites such as promotions, monthly book features, author pages, etc.
    • Oversee all aspects of publicity campaigns including setting pub dates, brainstorming publicity tactics, writing pitch letters and press releases, pitching national and local media, developing ancillary materials, author relations, etc.
    • Monitor the company (brand) image and manage brand identity standards.
    • Cultivate relationships with key book review editors (e.g. Publishers Weekly, School Library Journal, Booklist, Kirkus, Horn Book, etc.), as well as key book bloggers and influential librarians involved in the review and award process.
    • Represent company at industry conventions and meetings as needed.
    • Interact professionally with agents, authors, illustrators, photographers, and media as the company’s liaison.
    • Keep abreast of relevant marketing, PR, and industry information via trade and online journals.
    • Perform other related business duties assigned by immediate supervisor and/or other management as required.

    Experience and Necessary Skills: Solid self-starting, project management, and exceptional writing and communication skills—as well as drive—are essential to the Group Marketing Director position. Proven organizational skills, detail-oriented, marketing, publicity or public relations experience, a strong interest in children’s book publishing, and the ability to prioritize projects and daily tasks to meet long-term and short-term deadlines. At least five years publishing marketing and/or publicity experience is required.
    Education: A bachelor's degree.

    Assist Digital team with various projects to include the proofing and quality assurance testing of digital products, editing ebook metadata, distributing ebook files, and assisting with marketing and customer service while gaining hands-on experience in the publishing industry.

    Summary: Assist Digital team with various projects to include the proofing and quality assurance testing of digital products, editing ebook metadata, distributing ebook files, and assisting with marketing and customer service while gaining hands-on experience in the publishing industry.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Be an active member of the Digital team by supporting all efforts.
    • Test reflowable and fixed layout ePub/ePub3 and mobi/KF8 eBooks on a variety of devices to ensure top quality.
    • Test apps, online platforms, audio files, Interactive Books, Audisee eBooks with Audio, and other digital products on a variety of devices to ensure top quality.
    • Provide QA feedback in an organized and timely manner.
    • Edit ebook metadata utilizing an online validator such as FlightDeck.
    • Assist with creation of early review PDF and other format eBooks for NetGalley.
    • Generate and edit metadata for seasonal distribution, including posting of files for distributors.
    • Assist with writing and/or editing marketing copy and project documentation.
    • Assist with special projects as appropriate.
    • Perform other related business duties assigned by immediate supervisor and/or other management as required.

    Experience and Necessary Skills: Qualifications include excellent project management and proofreading skills, basic computer experience, and familiarity with a variety of e-readers, especially iPad and Kindle. Knowledge of HTML, CSS, or experience with eBook creation is a plus. Intern will also possess the ability to communicate well - and in a professional manner - by email and in person with internal staff and overseas vendors. A strong interest in children's book publishing is a plus.

    Education: At least two years of undergraduate work; major in English, Education, Computer Science, or related field.

    Intern - Marketing:
    Assist Sales & Marketing team with various projects to include the coordination of the early review process and review tracking, website and social media updates, proofing of marketing materials, writing press releases and publicity materials, while gaining hands-on experience in the publishing industry.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Be an active member of the Sales & Marketing team by supporting all efforts.
    • Write, proof, and edit various marketing materials, including but not limited to: advertisements, catalogs, flyers, press releases, discussion guides, and social media content to ensure top quality messaging.
    • Coordinate and send publicity mailings.
    • Assist with the early review and review tracking process.
    • Help to maintain and update various company websites and databases.
    • Send out books, catalogs, and other materials as necessary.
    • Create social media marketing and help develop social media content for the company. An eye for, or experience with design preferable. �
    • Assist with special projects as appropriate.
    • Perform other related business duties assigned by immediate supervisor and/or other management as required.

    Experience and Necessary Skills: Qualifications include:

    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Strong writing ability and basic computer experience, specifically Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and database applications.
    • Professional communication skills by email, telephone, and in person with editors, producers, authors, and colleagues.
    • Social media and/or design experience preferred.
    • A strong interest in children's book publishing and a love of reading is a must.

    Education: At least two years of undergraduate work in a Library Science Technology, English, Communications, or Marketing major or related field
